Photo migration tool is used to reassign database records after planned migration of photos. When you rename or move photos, some records in the database become "dead": the information about the photo is still kept but you can't see the image because the file doesn't exist in the old location. Photo migration tool looks for the dead records and automatically suggests the new names for the renamed photos. There exists three methods of search, each of them should be used for a certain kind of photo management. You can considerably reduce the time of search if you specify from what folder the search should be started. For example, if you moved photos from "C:\Documents and Settings\John\My Photos" to "C:\Pictures", the starting path should be C:\Pictures. This will significantly increase the processing speed because Enot won't search images in such large root folders as "C:\Windows" and "C:\Program Files".
If you have no idea where your images have gone (!!!), try searching them in all hard drives, first in "c:\", then in "d:\", etc. But it will really take a lot of time.
Filename search with CRC32 check. This method is used when the file names and contents are the same, but images were moved to other folders. This method is fast and the relevance of the results is usually 100% unless you keep duplicates of your photos in the same starting path. Unfortunately, this method doesn't work if the files were renamed - use CRC32 search in such cases.
Filename search without CRC32 check. This method is used when the file names remained the same but the photos were moved to another folder and their content was also changed (edited, rotated, resized, etc). This method can give good results only if you specify correct folder name with images, otherwise there may be a lot of wrong results.
CRC32 search. This method is similar to the first method but it is slow because Enot calculates CRC32 for all files in the starting path. It works even when the file names were completely changed and the files were moved to other folders, but it won't work if the contents of the files were changed.
Having completed the search you will find old file names in the first column
of the table and supposed filenames in the second column. If Enot didn't manage
to find a new file, the line in the second column will be empty (possibly the
photo was deleted or you specified wrong starting path or improper search method).
Look all lines in the table and uncheck wrong matches, then click [Update database]
button to update checked (correct) records. If you are sure that some existing
files were not found, use the photo migration tool again with another starting
path or search method.
There is also a possibility to manually reassign single records. To do it, simply load the record in the "Edit" page and use pop-up menu of the file name field.
