Database page is used to manage databases and groups.
The program allows you to have unlimited number of databases. You can have one for work photos and one for home photos, or one for yourself and one for your spouse - any way you like it. Current database is saved automatically on exit and when you switch to another database. The database is loaded automatically on start and when you switch to another database.
If you casually erased a lot of information from your database or physically damaged it, exit Enot and restore one of the two previous copies before running the program again: rename \DB\db_name\db_name.bd1 or \DB\db_name\db_name.bd2 to \DB\db_name\db_name.edb. Backup copies are automatically saved each time you save your database. The .bd1 is the previous version, the .bd2 is the pre-previous version.
Every database has its own set of groups (they are called "categories" in old software). Enot introduces a new approach to the old conception of categories. Unlike simple categories, groups may have its subgroups, each of which may have its own subgroups, etc. It's up to you to decide what groups are important to you, but you should understand that groups give you more freedom than categories. For instance, if your main interests are in collecting post stamps, duck-toys and making photos of architecture and nature, you may chose such groups:
Hobby\Ducks\Rubber ducks\Yellow rubber ducks
Hobby\Ducks\Rubber ducks\Rubber ducks of various colors
Hobby\Ducks\Non-rubber ducks
Hobby\Stamps\Domestic stamps
Hobby\Stamps\International stamps
Photos\Architecture\Churches
Photos\Architecture\19-century structures
Photos\Architecture\20-century structures
Photos\Architecture\Freaky-designed structures
Photos\Nature\Animate\Birds
Photos\Nature\Animate\Insects
Photos\Nature\Animate\Mammals
Photos\Nature\Inanimate\Flowers
Photos\Nature\Inanimate\Trees
Photos\Nature\Inanimate\Landscapes
You probably wonder why such a differentiation is better than simple categories "Hobby" and "Photos" - you will find it when it comes to searching.
If you have a lot of photos of people, you possibly want to find the photos of certain persons easily. To do it, create a separate group tree for people, for example:
People\Family\Mom
People\Family\Dad
People\Family\Granny
People\Family\...
People\Friends\Anne
People\Friends\Mike
People\Friends\Phil
People\Friends\...
People\Work\John Smith
People\Work\Bill Gates
People\Work\Priscilla Cockroach
People\Work\...
People\Myself
People\Other
To add, rename or delete groups, go to "Database" tab and press right mouse button in the big field below "Groups available..." caption. Use pop-up menu to build your groups tree. If you don't need groups and want to use simple categories, create only root items. If you want to add a subgroup to a group, select it and add a child item. You can always rename groups by pressing F2 (Enot will rescan the database and update the changed group name automatically for all records that use it).
If you casually deleted important groups in the Group
Editor, exit Enot and rename either \DB\db_name\db_name.bg1 or \DB\db_name\db_name.bg2
to \DB\db_name\db_name.grp before running the program again.
